Wireless technology offers mobility and security… anywhere, anytime.
Guest2Net offers two solutions to best meet the needs of your property and
your guests.
1. Wireless
802.11 b/a/g
Our hospitality wireless solutions currently utilize 802.11b certified
equipment. 802.11b products operate at a maximum speed of 11 megabits/second
and have a fairly long range. As a client device gets farther away
from an access point the radio will automatically step down the bandwidth
from
11mbps to 5.5mbps, 2mbps and 1mbps. It is not imperative that the
client be connected to the access point at a full 11mbps since the T1 or
DSL line
that is typically used for Internet access operates at a maximum
of 1.5mbps. It is for this reason that 802.11b lends itself to be the best
choice for
a high-speed Internet technology for hotels. 802.11b products are
widely deployed and mature as well as being the least expensive of the 3
most
adopted standards. All of our access point products are upgradeable
to 802.11g or 802.11a by replacing the radio component without having to
replace
the entire access point.
802.11g products operate at a maximum speed of 54 megabits/second and have
a similar range as 802.11b products. 802.11g products are backward-compatible
with 802.11b products. An 802.11b client device will work with an 802.11g
access point and an 802.11g client device will work with an 802.11b access
point.
802.11a products operate at a maximum speed of 54 megabits/second. But unlike
802.11b and 802.11g products, 802.11a has a much shorter range. 802.11a products
are not compatible with 802.11b/g products. Due to its short range and the
large install-base of 802.11b client devices, 802.11a is not a standard that
works well in a hotel setting.
Security
Typically wireless networks are viewed as being “less secure” than
traditional, wired networks. Guest2Net works with you to determine the appropriate
security measures for your property and guests.

2. DSL
How it works
While DSL is a technology best known for providing high-speed Internet
in the home, it also has an important place in the hospitality industry.
While it would be ideal for every hotel to have been properly wired
for high-speed Internet during construction, older hotels did not have
this luxury.
There are three options to retrofit a hotel that does not have proper cabling
installed.
-
Install a wireless network
-
Run new cabling to each guest room
-
Install a DSL solution
Running new cable to each guest and meeting room is not a viable option
for hotels. The cost is astronomical and it is very disruptive to hotel operations
as it requires extensive construction.
